Turn a Location Visit into Structured Notes

A location visit produces many impressions, but those impressions can be difficult to compare later. A simple observation sheet gives each visit a common structure. Start with the purpose of the visit and the questions that can reasonably be answered on site.

Record the date, the area observed and the route taken. Note access, neighboring activities and visible constraints without turning a short observation into a claim about normal conditions. A photograph should be linked to a question rather than collected without context.

Keep operational statements from a host separate from things you directly observed. Ask which details need written confirmation and who is responsible for supplying it. A statement about capacity or availability may depend on conditions that were not discussed during the visit.

Afterwards, write a short list of unresolved points and the next source needed for each. The value of a visit lies in making the investigation more precise. A well-organized record preserves both useful findings and the limits of what a brief inspection can establish.
